The Top 10 First Dances

 

There is an ever changing list of romantic ballads, novelty tunes and big film sound track numbers that the great British public choose for their first dance. Some are chosen for what are generally agreed are the right reasons, some because they are topical or "in fashion" and some are picked for the sheer novelty value. There are however a selected few that are really popular and have been hanging around the top 10 for a couple of years now. The list we have put together here has been compiled with the aid of hundreds of DJ and live musicians up and down the country, the musical choices do vary slightly from region to region, but all the results go together to make up our overall top 10.

"I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" is a power ballad by American rock band Aerosmith. It appeared on the soundtrack to the film Armageddon. In the United Kingdom, the song peaked at number four in November 1998 and becoming Aerosmith's highest charting song in the UK to date.

Everything I Do (I Do It For You)

"Everything I Do I Do It for You" is a power ballad performed by Bryan Adams and co-written with Michael Kamen and Robert John "Mutt" Lange, featured on the soundtrack album from the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and on Adams' album Waking Up the Neighbours. It was an enormous chart success internationally, sixteen consecutive weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart (the longest in British chart history).

Amazed

"Amazed" was written by Marv Green, Aimee Mayo and Chris Lindsey. The first version of the song was recorded by Lonestar, whose version was released in 1999 as the second single from their 1999 album Lonely Grill.  Since the release of the original, the song has been covered by Bonnie Tyler and Duncan James, as well as Boyz II Men for their 2009 album Love.

"You're Still the One" is a song by Canadian singer Shania Twain. It was the third country single from Shania Twain's 1997 album, Come on Over, while it was the first to be released to pop and international markets. Released in 1998, the single peaked at number two becoming Twain's first top ten hit. The song was written by Twain and Mutt Lange and produced by Lange.

"From This Moment On" is a song by Canadian country singer Shania Twain. It was the fourth country single released from her 1997 multi-platinum album, Come on Over. The song was written by Mutt Lange and Shania Twain. It became her second biggest single and went on to become Twain's ninth top-ten single. The original version of the song featured fellow country singer Bryan White, while a new re-recorded version featured Twain solo.

Have I Told You Lately

"Have I Told You Lately" is a hit song written by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison and recorded for his 1989 album Avalon Sunset. It was originally written also as a prayer.
"Have I Told You Lately" has become a classic song and has received acclaim by winning a Grammy Award. When released as a single by Mercury in 1989, it charted at number twelve and has been a popular cover song with many vocal and instrumental versions recorded by numerous artists and bands.

You're Beautiful

"You're Beautiful" is a pop rock song co-written by British singer James Blunt, Sacha Skarbek, and Amanda Ghost for Blunt's debut album Back to Bedlam (2004). It was released as the third single from the album in 2005. In the UK and Australia the song reached number one and number two respectively. It reached number one and received widespread airplay and in 2006, the song won an Ivor Novello Award for airplay. The song has sold 625,000 copies in the UK.

Truly Madly Deeply

"Truly Madly Deeply" is a song by Australian pop band Savage Garden recorded between 1995 and 1996, released as a single in 1997. Written by bandmates Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones, the song is a reworking of an older song of theirs called "Magical Kisses" and was the third single from their self-titled debut album.

"Angels" is a song written by Robbie Williams and Guy Chambers, originally performed by Robbie Williams and covered by Jessica Simpson and Beverley Knight. The original recording by Williams proved to be his greatest commercial success, being certified Double Platinum in the United Kingdom and selling 2 million copies worldwide.

I Will Always Love You
